Hiking

Manilva Town Hall’s Councillor for the Environment, Emilio Lopez, has announced the autumn 2007 programme of guided walks, which will commence on Sunday, 28th October, 2007.

In collaboration with the Malaga Provincial Environment Department and the Andalucian Climbing Federation, the programme is designed to develop hiking as an activity which not only improves fitness, but also raises awareness of the environment and provides an opportunity to improve our knowledge of our surrounding area.

The activity also helps to maintain the rural roads and footpaths whilst providing an activity open to a wide range of people.

Participants must be over 14 years of age

Walkers should have the appropriate level of fitness for the distances and difficulty of the walk. The guides will reserve the right to refuse to take people who they deem insufficiently fit to complete the walk.

Reservations for each walk will accepted no sooner than the Wednesday before each walk.

Transport is supplied for each walk and leaves at approximately 8.30 am. Pick up points are the Health Centre in Manilva (near the Las Viñas Sports Pavillion), the Castle in Castillo, and from the petrol station in Sabinillas.

There is a charge of 4 euros per walk to cover accident insurance cover during the course of each activity.

Payment should be made at Unicaja in the Medio Ambiente account no 2103 0153 23 0230000044

There is a maximum number of 50 places for each each route and no entries will be admitted once it is full. You must confirm book and payment with the Environment Department  (Delegación de Medio Ambiente) on 951 27 60 50 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The first route will be Alhaurín and Jarapalo on the Sunday, 28th October, 2007 so make a note in your diary.

Subsequent walks will be Benaoján - Cueva del Gato - Montejaque on Sunday, 18th November and  Los Monjes - Nagüeles on Sunday, 16th December, 2007.
