IMPORTANT NOTE:
Racing has resumed as from
January 1st
The Purpose built racecourse
(Hipodromo) at Mijas Costa stages daytime meetings every fortnight
on a Sunday.
The meetings consist of 5
races, the first race scheduled for 11:15h and the final race
getting under way at 13:30h, although these times tend to get
a little stretched.
The racecourse is well served
with restaurants and bars ranging from Patsy Fagan's Irish Bar;
The Garden Terrace, where you can get barbecue food; Papa Luigi
Pasta and Pizza; Bar No. 1; and the Restaurante Hipodromo for
more formal dining. There is also a choice of live music during
and after the racing.
During June, July and August
the meetings switch to Friday night this year, for the first time,
and are held weekly, under floodlights, with the first getting
underway at 22:00h and the last race scheduled for 00:50h. The
post racing party goes on till about 05:00h.
Entrance to the races is €5
and parking is free.

Big Races (last year's dates)
A couple of big events in
the Spring Calendar, the first being the "Mijas Gran Premio"
Sponsored by the Junta de Andalucia this race has a first prize
of €51,000 and will be held on the 15th May.
The second is the first two-day
meeting to be held on the weekend of the 28th and 29th of May.
On the Saturday the big event of a 6-race card is the "Spanish
Oaks" for 3-year-old fillies, first prize €51,000 and
on the Sunday the Spanish Derby with a total prize money of €100,000.
