The church and its adjoining square can be found in the centre of Manilva Town. The existing church was built in the second half of the 18th century between 1776 and 1783 by master builder D. Felipe Pérez funded by the Duque de Arcos and the people of Manilva. This new church was built on the site of a previous smaller chapel which was built between 1530 and 1573. Little is known about this former building other than it was a lot smaller than the current church, had a single tower and was badly damage by an earthquake in the mid 1700s. The church is 36 m in length, with a width of 20 m and a height of 25 m. It is divided into two lateral and one central nave forming a cross which provides ample space; a presbytery, vestibule, depository and sacristy are all adjoining. The church is the focal point for many of the Town's main events such as the Semana Santa (Easter) processions, the Romeria (pilgimage) to the Virgen of Fatima and the Vendimia celebrating Manilva's grape harvest.
