Equal access to Manilva's public buildings Print

The Town Council of Manilva has taken an important step this month towards total access for all citizens of Manilva to its public buildings, by signing a contract with Zardoya Otis to install stairlifts.

Following negotiations by the Councillor for Equality and Public Participation, Carlos Gomez, and his Head of Department, Diego Roman, along with the Mayor, Salvador Zotano and Zardayo Otis's representative, Francisco Gomez, the contract was finally sealed to commission the construction of stairlifts in both the Town Hall building in Calle Mar, Manilva, and the Tenencia Alcaldia, in Calle Duquesa de Arcos in Sabinillas.

The total value of the contract is 21,400 euros and installation is expected to be completed in 25 days.

This project is in line with the Law 13/1982 7 April regarding the social integration of the disabled, which established that the construction, extension and renovation of buildings, both public and private and including public parks, gardens and thoroughfare, and which are destined for public use, should provide equal access to all sections of the community including the disabled.

Councillor Gomez is satisified with the progress this administration was making towards equal access for all to the municipality's public areas, and that this is another big step towards that goal.
