The Royal Advisory Commission for the Western Sahara (CORCAS) met in Manilva to outline the creation of an autonomous state as a solution to the problems of the Western Sahara
The President of CORCAS Jalehena Ould Rachid requested, when in Manilva, international collaboration to end the conflict in Western Sahara
In the first week of June talks were held at the La Duquesa Golf Club in which the President of The Royal Advisory Commission for the Western Saharan (CORCA), Jalehena Ould Rachid, who is appointed by King Mohamed VI of Morocco to present a solution to the conflict in the Western Sahara.
The ceremony, presided over by the Mayor of Manilva, Salvador Zotano, and the President of CORCAS, began with an introduction by the Councillor for Tourism Promotion, Francisco Miguel Alvarez, who welcomed the members of the retinue and praised the humanitarian work that was being done to promote public understanding and to dismiss the policies of confrontation and division.
Councillor Alvarez also declared his pleasure that the people of Manilva had a share in the responsibility for this initiative “and to have the opportunity to help bring closer an accord between these peoples and to forge a peace for the near future”.
After these welcoming words the President of CORCAS, Jalehena Ould Rachid, opened the talks on the plans put forward by Morocco for the territory of Western Sahara for which they are seeking international support for what they see as the only solution to the conflict, and that is to create an autonomous region for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty.
Rachid believes that this is the only solution possible, given that the best experts in the world sent by the UN have not been able to find an alternative solution which wouldn't require the modification of the borders of several countries.
The President of CORCAS's aim, in his visit to Spain, has been to see how the system of autonomous government works in practice, an example of which they would like to see operating in the Western Sahara, as well as to meet with the wide range of groups, associations, organisations and administrations which have cooperated and supported the people of Western Sahara, and to press for the start of a dialogue to end the conflict once and for all.
Also attending the conference were other members of Manilva's governing council, along with the Provincial Deputy of Culture, Fernando Centeno, the deputy Ignacio Mena, several councillors from Estepona, the President of the Manilva Business Association, Rafael Zúñiga, as well as representatives from several social groups and the business community.
