The population of Manilva has surpassed the 11,000 mark this year with the number of inhabitants registered on the Padron numbering 11,219 residents as of the 1st January 2006.
This number is an increase of 16.5% on the same time last year when the registered population was 9,636.
This takes the population over the 10,001 figure, one of the results being that in the next elections, tobe held in 2007, their will be 17 council seats up for grabs as opposed to the current 13.
There is a disparity between the number of inhabitants recognised by the National Institute of Statistics and which officially records a figure of 10,900, a number which doesn't tally with the municipal register, and the Mayor of Manilva, Salvador Zotano, has written to them to revise their estimate.
The number breakdown to: 6,006 males and 5,213 females.
There were 324 births registered in the municipality of which 161 were male and 163 female.
There were a total of 3,153 new registrations on the Padron of which 1,797 were male and 1,356 female.
This figure does not include residents who are not registered on the Padron. It is very important that everyone living in the Municipality of Manilva do so as it directly affects the resources and finances allocated to Manilva by the Regional and National Governments.
To register, simply visit the Town Hall in Manilva or the Tenencia Alcaldia in Sabinillas (underneath the Hotel Doña Luisa on the Paseo), with your passport and escritura (title deed) if you are a property owner, or a rental contract or a utility bill with your name and address on it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a 'Residencia', it does not mean you having to pay any extra taxes, nor does it cost you anything. If you are living in the area, and therefore using local resources, you owe it to yourself and your neighbours to register.
