Manilva Municipal School of Music Inaugurated
The Mayor of Manilva, Salvador Zotano, together with the Councillor for Education,
Francisco Miguel Alvarez, and the Director of Manilva’s Municipal Band,
Fernando Antiñola, inaugurated the facilities of Manilva’s new
Municipal School of Music last month. The event was attended by several university
professors from Malaga’s Music Conservatory, who have given their names
to the school’s various classrooms, as well as the head of educative planning
at the Junta de Andalucia’s Provincial Education Department, Salvador
Muñoz, along with several members of the Town Council.
Councillor Francisco Miguel Alvarez went through the history of of this project
which saw its inception several years ago in response to local demand for a
centre for musical education. Alvarez declared his pleasure that the project
had finally come to fruition, and also announced his continued work to improve
and build on the existing facilities. The new centre’s Director, Fernando
Antiñola, also listed a number of people he wished to thank for making
the Manilva School of Music a reality, and also took this opportunity to ask
for continued support and assistance from the Junta de Andalucia. The Mayor
of Manilva, Salvador Zotano, then expressed his pleasure at the opening of yet
another improvement to Manilva’s education infrastructure.
After the speeches, the Mayor, the Councillor for Education, and the Director
of the School, accompanied by the Mayor’s First Lieutenant, Rafael Mena,
and Councillor Carlos Gomez unveiled a commemorative plaque and then invited
all present to a performance by the Municipal Band to open the facilities.
The school premises cover a total surface of 404 square metres divided into
a ground floor covering 163 square metres and a first floor of 241 square metres.
The accommodation consists of a reception area, toilets, director’s office,
staff room, and five classrooms. On the ground floor is an exam room, and multipurpose
area and a ticket office.
The teaching staff, under the direction of the musician Fernando Antiñola,
consists of two experienced and qualified music professors: Daniel Salazar and
Gabriel Jesus Tirado. The staff also numbers a caretaker and cleaner.
The new Music School will have capacity for 150 students, and will provide
instruction in music and movement for children from 4 to 8 years of age, instrumental
practice for piano and clarinet, singing lessons, reading music, as well as
the local band and choirs. There will also be workshops for jazz and popular
music.
The aims of this new facility are:
- To develop from an early age a knowledge and appreciation of music.
- To give theoretical and practical lessons that allows the individual study
and learn music with limitation of age
- To make identify and nurture existing talent in youngsters and to provide
the necessary facilities to develop them to their full potential.
- To offer a wide range of lessons of a musical nature
- To educate children in traditional music by instruction and also through
concerts and exhibitions at the school.
- To organize public performances and to participate in musical activities.
- To develop in the pupils an interest in the participation in vocal and instrumental
groups.
- To provide a complementary musical education to the practical lessons.
