A general strike amongst construction industry workers in the province of Malaga
has brought many building sites to a halt.

Alhaurin de la Torre who have been on strike since the quarries were shut down
by a court order for not having the correct operating licences.
The strike, which is due to run from the 9th to the 15th of January, was supported
by 80% of construction workers with the remaining 20% expected to join once
the reason was explained to them, which is to force a solution to the conflict
in the quarries which is crippling the industry.
Construction companies have warned that the quarry strike, which has cut off
supplies of cement to most of the province, is having a serious effect on the
industry in the Malaga area and on the Costa del Sol, as these quarries have
supplied between 70 and 80% of the cement used in this part of Spain.
Quarry workers have been camped out in front of the Alhaurin Town Hall for
over a month now, and have promised to continue until the problem is solved.
