Francisco Leon, President of Manilva's football team U.D. Manilva-Sabinillas
has expressed renewed confidence since the young local trainer Jose Maria Pajares
took on the role of coach and is satisfied with the performance of the team
so far this season.
Union Deportiva Manilva-Sabinillas play in Primera Andaluza Group 3 along with
teams such as Estepona, Ronda, San Pedro and Torremolinos to name but a few,
and are currently enjoying a good run and are in the top half of the table.
UD Manilva-Sabinillas play their home matches at the newly refurbished Las
Viñas Campo de Futbol in Manilva. In late 2004 the entire pitch was taken
up and replaced with a state-of-the-art artificial playing surface, along with
improved changing and spectator facilities.
Matches are normally played on a Sunday and timings vary, snacks and drinks
can be bought at the grounds, and there is generally a good atmosphere at all
matches. Match tickets cost a few euros only.
The season runs from September through to the end of April and the top team
in the league gains promotion to the Spanish national third division.
