Manilva International
Beach Football Festival

This month La Noria beach in Sabinillas will play host to the 1st Manilva International Beach Football Festival which is to be held over the weekend of the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of August.
This football spectacular will be contested by teams of footballing legends from six countries, namely England, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Spain and Gibraltar. The action will be centred on a 3,000 seater stadium which will be set up on the beach with an adjoining ‘football village’ allong the promenade with numerous stalls, hospitality and refreshment stands, etc.
As well as the football there will also be a programme of fun and entertainment, including a programme of concerts featuring groups such as funk soul band ‘Crusher Jones’, ‘Dry Martini’ and U2 tribute band ‘Traffic Jam’, all contributing to making this a truly memorable event, which is being organised by Manilva Leisure SL, and EFPG Sportsguard Ltd, along with headline sponsor Altraplan Luxembourg S.A. The main purpose of the festival is to raise funds for the chosen charity ‘Sun & Happiness’ who work to bring underprivileged and terminally ill children from the UK to Spain to enjoy a well deserved week in the Spanish sun.
The event will also serve as a great promotion for the area with the whole event being televised by a broadcasters from across Europe including Sky Sports who will be making a documentary of the event. In all it is anticipated that some 100 channels worldwide will be screening the event in one form or another, making it a great opportunity for sponsors.
Come and rub shoulders with some of the all time greats of the game, cheer on your team, watch some of amazing entertainment acts, as you enjoy the wide range of food, drink and festivities and have a totally great time in the sun in what will be the biggest sporting event on the coast for 2008.

Michael Laudrup - FC Barcelona. He scored 37 goals in a total of 104 appearances for Denmark. In 1999 he was voted the Best Foreign Player in Spanish Football over the previous 25-year period. Now manager of Getafe CF.
Marc Rieper - AGF Aarhus, Brøndby IF, West Ham and Celtic. Capped 61 times for Denmark national team,
Michael Schjonberg - Kaiserslautern. 50 caps for Denmark.
Peter Schmeichel MBE - Voted the “World’s Best Goalkeeper” in 1992 and 1993. Manchester United from 1991 to 1999. Captained Demark in 30 matches.
NETHERLANDS Paul Bosvelt
Feyenoord from 1997 captained them to victory in 2003 UEFA Cup. 24 caps for the Netherlands national football team including Euro 2000 and 2004.
(“Sonny”) Silooy Jan Jacobus
One of the legends of Ajax , from 1981. 25 caps for the Netherlands national football team. He also coached the Ajax youth academy and juniors team.

Ajax Amsterdam, then moved to Bolton Wanderers, joined West Bromwich Albion in March 1996. After Sneekes retirement of 2007, he went on to captain West Bromwich Albion in the Midlands ‘Masters’ and has done so ever since, scoring in the 2008 tournament.
SPAIN Javier Manjarin - Deportivo de La Coruña (1993-1999) and Racing de Santander (1999). 13 international caps from 1993 to 1997. U21 gold medal at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.
Ramiro Amarelle - Captain of the Spanish national beach soccer team.
Martin Vazquez - Real Madrid 1983-90, part of the ‘Quinta del Buitre’. Follwoed by stints at Torino and Olympique Marseille, before returning to Real Madrid until 1995. Capped 38 times for Spain, including Euro 88 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Currently Martín Vázquez is employed as a youth coach at Real Madrid.
Donato Gama De Siva - Simply Donato to fans, of Brazilian origin, holds the record for the most games played in La Liga by a player born outside of Spain during his time at Atlético Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña. After becoming a citizen of Spain in 1994, Donato was called to the Spain national team, and earned 12 caps between November 1994 and June 1996. He was part of the Spanish squad at the 1996 European Championship.
Fran - Francisco Javier González Pérez (born 14 July 1969 in Carreira, A Coruña, Galicia), known simply as Fran, is a Spanish former professional who spent his entire career with Deportivo de La Coruña. His 16 caps for Spain also included games at Euro 2000.
Jaques Songoo - Jacques Celestine Songo’o a Cameroonian goalkeeper. Played for Deportivo de La Coruña. Songo’o featured for Cameroon in every World Cup from 1990 to 2002, although only as first choice in the 1998 edition.
Mena - Eusebio Sacristán Mena former Real Valladolid, Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Celta de Vigo, earned 15 caps for the national team from 1986 to 1992, and was selected to the squad for Euro 1988
