The new council offices (tenencia de alcaldia) were officially inaugurated on Friday, 22nd of August and were open for business as from the following Monday, 25th August.
The offices are located on the ground floor of the El Mero building in Sabinillas, and incorporate the Tourist Office, Local Registry, Policia Local as well as offices of a number of council departments such as Infrastructure and Public Works and the Deputy Mayor. According to Mario Jimenez, councillor for Infrastructure and Public Works this move has had a negligible impact on public coffers as the premises were ceded to the Town Hall as part of the planning agreement for the building, and 90% of the fitting out was carried out by municipal workers, with any remaining services provided by local businesses. This move also means that the Town Hall no longer has to pay rentals on any of its offices, meaning a net gain to the council coffers. |
