Manilva Town Council’s departments for Infrastructure, Public Works, and Parks & Gardens, have begun works on the construction of the El Duque public park situated behind the urbanisation of the same name, located just off the road which runs between the Chinese restaurant and supermarket in Sabinillas. Work begins on new park
The El Duque Park will be created on a plot of 8,518 square metres (approx 2 and a quarter acres). Councillor Mario Jiménez announced that the park is to be created on a piece of public land which for many years as been neglected. He went on to explain that the park will be ‘Mediterranean’ in theme and planted with predominantly indigenous plant species, the park will also provide an exercise zone, picnic area, along with a restaurant or cafeteria for the parks users. According to Councillor Jiménez the cost of the first phase of the project will be reduced by using the council workforce, with even drafting of the project being done by a technician from the Infrstructure Department. Initial works will involve the enclosing and securing of the plot, marking out the various pathways which will have a rustic finish, and create a central grand plaza complete with fountain. According to the councillor, the El Duque Park is the first of three great parks to be created in the municipality, with works due to begin on the Villa Matilde Park, around the old tourist office, due to start after the summer. The parks projects are being subsidised by grants from the Provincial Government in Malaga. |
