Manilva Pact

Well the horse trading is finally over and, under the watchful eye of the provincial PSOE and IU directorship, the pact between the PSOE and IU has been formalised.

At a press conference, held on Monday, 23rd November, the pact was formally signed which will see the four elected PSOE councillors join forces with the five Izquierda Unida. According to PSOE spokesman Salvador Zotano this was an historic moment  putting an end to the discord and personal differences that his existed between these two parties.

The Mayoress and IU leader, Antonia Muñoz, declared that among the immediate objectives of this new pact was to sort out the municipality's social security debt, push forward the completion of the Sabinillas Sports Centre and resolve the parking issues.

The issue of the two former ASM councillors who jumped ship, joining the PSOE earlier this month has been settled. They will continue as part of the PSOE group but will have no official role within the government.

The PSOE will assume responsibility for the following departments: Planning, Comerce, Waste Treatment, Street Cleaning, Communication Media, Tourism, Promotion & Image, Beaches, Education, Culture, Institutional Relations and Environment.

The councillors and their departments are:

Diego Diaz (IU): Finance & Personnel, Water Management, Transport and Agriculture & Fisheries.

Diego Urieta (IU): Foreigners, Civil Participation, Youth & Sports.

Paqui López (IU): Social Welfare and Fiestas.

Mario Jimenez (IU): Infrastructure & Public Works, Parks & Gardens.

Antonia Muñoz, Mayoress (IU): Health, Civil Protection, Cemetery and Housing.

Salvador Zotano (PSOE): Planning and Environment.

Gabriel Recio (PSOE): Commerce & Small/Medium Businesses, Waste Treatment, Cleaning, Consumer, Communication Media.

Diego Jose Jimenez (PSOE): Education, Institutional Relations, Municipal Schools of Dance & Music, Culture.
