A ceremony was held on Thursday, 30th July to lay the first stone of the Manilva Wine Centre, which is being built next to the fire station in Manilva.
The centre, which will provide a focus for grape growing and wine production in the area, is being funded under the Costa del Sol's Plan Qualifica which aims to improve the region's tourism and cultural infrastruction, and which is providing 700,000 euros for the project. The Junta de Andalucia's Minister for Tourism, Luciano Alonson, who officiated at the ceremony, explained the importance of diversification in the tourism infrastructure in attracting visitors in the extremely competitive tourism industry. The centre, which is expected to open later next year, is on three levels: - Basement (200 m2) - Laboratory facilities, bodega (wine cellar), well, etc.
- Ground Floor (400 m2) - Visitor reception, shop, offices, archives. This level will also house classrooms, audio-visual facilities, exhibition of viticulture and viniculture, etc.
- First Floor - Wine bar, kitchens, conference room with stage and dressing rooms. The first floor also boasts an outdoor terrace of some 50 square metres.
