Last Sunday, 23rd February, saw the Manilva Suns continue their winning run in the LNF2, Spain’s American Football league, with a convincing 45 - 7 win over the young Portuguese side Oporto Renegades.
The Suns were buoyed by the return from injury of their US quarterback Zac Colvin, who immediately stamped his authority on the game. He was well supported by the Suns’ offence who ran in a number of tourchdowns, commencing with Njie Sulayman, and followed by Rene Knopf (2TD), Jose Luis Torres (2TD), Eddy Mazon (1TD), and Zac Colvin (1TD). The Manilva Suns’ defense also put in a strong performance, led by Kevin Prior and Trevor Spence, they not only held back a spirited Portuguese offence, but also turned the ball over no less than 8 times. The only downer on an otherwise perfect day for the Suns was the injury to their receiver Juan Ortiz, who was stretchered off the field with a broken leg, which will put paid to the rest of his season. The Suns were quick to praise the Portuguese side’s fairplay, and acknowledge their level of skill despite their youth. The Manilva Suns will play their next match on Saturday, 1st March, at the Las Viñas football ground, Manilva against the Black Demons from Madrid. Kick off is at 4.00 pm. |
