The Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, has made a formal request to the public for help in providing historical items to create a local museum dedicated to the ‘land and sea’ which will be situated in the Castle at Castillo de La Duquesa. To this end she has already suggested the commencement of the project to the councillor for Culture, Yolanda Holgado and the councillor responsible for Beaches, Diego Urieta.
People visiting the museum, which will basically centre on agriculture and fishing, will be offered a taste of the lifestyle of local inhabitants of the Manilva area who have settled here over the centuries. The museum will exhibit farming and fishing implements and other equipment, clothes and techniques used in working on the land and sea. In her public request for help, Antonia Muñoz asked for the support of residents in depositing into the care of, or donating to, the council, those antique agricultural tools and fishing implements they have which the council can then conserve in the museum. Manilva Town Council’s intention is to collect these items from the places in which they are currently kept, under the supervision of their owners, and to conserve them in good condition displaying them to their best advantage in the Castle and including the name of the owner and the item donated to the exhibit. Those who wish to donate material for exhibition in the museum can visit the Town Hall in Manilva, telephone: 952 80 00 65 or to the Tenencia de Alcaldía situated in Sabinillas, telephone: 952 89 35 54, or to the Cultural Department situated in the Castle at Castillo de La Duquesa, telephone: 952 89 30 92 The Mayoress is confident of a good response to her request for assistance from the public so that Manilva will have a museum dedicated to the land and sea in the shortest possible time and that it will definitely be a great attraction in the area. |
