The Sabinillas public health centre is currently located in Calle Emilio Prado by Unicaja Bank.

Telephone: 952 890 295

Work is currently underway on a new health centre, on the site of the old football ground in Sabinillas, which is expected to be completed sometime in 2007.

Routine appointments

Routine appointments are seen between the hours of 0800 to 1400 daily, Monday to Friday.

Where possible, patients are seen on the same day that they make an appointment, however this is subject to demand which changes throughout the year and can sometimes mean waiting a day or so.

Should you require a same day appointment, it is advisable to telephone or arrive early at the Health Centre which is currently open for appointments from 0800 hours until 1300 hours daily, Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays).

You can make your appointment at either the Reception Desk on the ground or first floor when you will be given printed appointment time and number in the queue, or when telephoning, informed of these details.

If you have visited the Health Centre in the past you will have been given an historical number (H a .) on your first appointment slip and should quote this when booking any further appointments.

Please remember that your appointment time may not be the time at which you will be seen dependent on how long each person before you has taken with the doctor and the possible resulting delays. You should rely on your number in the queue instead and be prepared to wait. If you arrive later than your appointment time, you are normally required to wait until the end of surgery if you have missed your place in the queue (best avoided).

If the doctor is called out on an emergency you will also encounter delays and then should decide whether or not to wait or rebook your appointment for another day.

It is possible to see another doctor (or a Locum) if yours is on holiday or particularly busy and your medical problem requires more immediate attention.

Cancelling your appointment

Should you be unable to keep your appointment, out of courtesy, please inform the Health Centre.

Repeat prescriptions for medication

If your condition requires a repeat prescription of medicine, during your appointment you should ask your doctor to provide you with an envelope bearing your details and his/her official stamp into which you can place the barcode and product name from the packaging of your medicine and hand in at Reception at least a few days before you run out of your current supply. You will then be asked to return within 1 or 2 days to collect your repeat prescription which has to be approved by your doctor.

Paediatrician

Currently, the paediatrician is available Monday and Wednesday from 0815 – 1400 hours and on Friday from 0815 – 1030 hours (excluding Public Holidays).

For routine appointments children will be seen by the paediatrician until the age of 7 after which they can then choose alternatively to be seen by a doctor. From 14 years of age patients are seen by a doctor.

Out of hours service/emergency

This service is divided between the villages of Manilva and Sabinillas throughout the year - please refer to the calendar below.

If you have been given a prescription out of normal surgery hours, you may present your prescription at the duty pharmacy at the out of hours window where you will be required to pay for your medication and then make any reclamation you are entitled to through the usual channels during normal surgery hours.

House calls

This is a very limited service and only registered patients with an immediate emergency during surgery hours such as heart attack, or falls where the patient cannot be moved, will be seen by the doctor who will attend together with a nurse and ambulance.

The elderly and those who are housebound due to ongoing illness may also use this service by prior arrangement.

Nurses clinics

There are currently 3 nurses available, each one assigned to a corresponding doctor at the Health Centre.

The nurses deal with analysis needs, such as taking bloods and other samples, first thing in the morning between 0800 and 1000 hours.

A clinic is also held by the nurses in the afternoon, currently between 1500 and 1700 hours, for dressings and stitching etc.

Appointments for nurses' clinics are made via your doctor when you see him and he will direct you to the desk situated downstairs to book an appointment.
