The councillor for Youth and Sports, Diego Urieta Jiménez, has recently informed students in Manilva that the Ministry for Education and Science (MEC) has opened it’s doors to students who want to request grants and scholarships for studies during the 2007-2008 academic year.

The grants and scholarships are for university, Baccalaureate (sixth form), and Vocational Training (in Art, language and sport education) students.  Each grant covers the cost of enrollment, residence, transport, books and materials.  In addition, those students on low income can get help to compensate them for the lack of income while they dedicate themselves to study.

The level of income allowed which gives a student the right to a grant has increased by 13.5% with respect to the 2006-2007 course and because of this those students that have not until now had access to this help may be able to benefit during the next course.  The average number of grants has increased by 5%.

Request forms are available in tobacconists, or on the web www.mec.es and places are open unitl 31 October 2007.  Further information is available in BOE 14 of July 2007.
