Manilva Commercial Department’s “Bet on our Local Commerce” commerce has proved very popular, with participants including shops and businesses across the whole spectrum of trades and retail such as boutiques, shoeshops, hairdressers, bars, restaurants, hardware stores, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers.

Summer Spanish lessons

Manilva’s Foreigners’ Department has opened enrolment for this year’s summer Spanish course.
Commencing on the 1st July and running to the 31st August the courses run over 50 hours – 4 hours per week and are available at three levels Beginners I and II, and Intermediate. Course work will concentrate on practical exercises and conversation.
Classes will consist of 8 to 10 students and will be held in the Usos Multiples building in Calle Miguel Delibes (opposite Hamilton Homes) in Sabinillas.
Courses cost 60€ per person and can be booked at the Foreigners’ Department office in the Villa Matilde, Ctra. Sabinillas-Manilva, Km.0.5. Tel. 952 890 845.

 
Charity fun run

This Saturday, 7th June, there will be a Charity Run to raise funds towards the establishing of a refuge for abandoned animals in the Manilva area.
The run begins at 10 am on the promenade at La Noria at the eastern end of Sabinillas and each lap of the route is 3 kms.

Open all hours

The Comisión Asesora de Comercio Interior de Andalucía (CACI), the body that regulates domestic commerce in Spain, has declared Manilva an area of touristic importance thereby allowing extended opening hours for local businesses.

This means that commercial and retail premises may open Sundays during the period 1st July to 15th September, and during Semana Santa from Palm Sunday through to Good Friday inclusive.

This concession will run for four years from 2008 to 2011 inclusive after which it will be reviewed.

Manilva’s Grupo Motero Rompecilindro motorcycle club will be holding their annual meet ‘concentracion’ over the weekend of Saturday 7th, and Sunday 8th June.

Building works halted

Project halted 

According to a report from the Manilva Town Hall, Emilio Lopez, who is councillor for both the Planning and Environment departments, has signed a document ordering the immediate halt of building works being carried out on a plot situated in the Punta Chullera area of Manilva by Ellamere Holdings SL.

After months of hard work in setting up, the local business association ACEMCE, Asociación de Comerciantes y Empresarios de Manilva, Casares y Estepona, was finally launched officially on Friday, 16th May at a ceremony held in the Castle at Castillo de la Duquesa, Manilva.

1st July - The official bathing season began today with a presentation of the team that will be maintaining the beaches along with the civil protection crew who will be providing safety cover and lifeguard services.

28th June - Hundreds of locals turned out to see the Parque El Duque officially opened tonight. They were treated to entertainment and fireworks followed by a performance by María Lozano from Canal Sur TV's “Se llama Copla”. For photos visit the Manilva Life Gallery .

27th June - Álvarez elected president of PP Manilva

Francisco Miguel Alvarez was elected president of the Partido Poplar Manilva at the party's congress held on Saturday, 27th June held at the La Duquesa Golf Club.
The congress, which was attended by a large number of foreign residents, included amongst its guests a number of PP councillors from other municipalities along with the provincial PP president Elias Bendodo who emphasised Manilva key importance in the forthcoming local elections in 2011.

25th June - The Mayoress has told council workers her government is working to find the money to pay this month's wage bill, which includes the first of the two annual extra payments, doubling the money which will need to be found!

Works on the new archaeological museum in the Castle at Castillo de la Duquesa are now complete. The museum is expected to open to the public on the 20th July.


22nd June - The group 'Excéntrico Milú' were in Manilva last weekend shooting a video for their latest single “Sólo pienso en ti”.
The band's singer, Pedro Tirol, explained that he had many fond memories of summers spent in the area, which is why they shot the video here.
