The Governing body of Manilva recently signed an important agreement for the construction of 248 social housing units.

Residents of the Los Hidalgos development have organised a petition to urge the authorities to address the urgent need for a safe pedestrian crossing point at the Los Hidalgos roundabout.

ACEMCE will be holding its first networking breakfast on Thursday, 3rd July at Patisseries Miel on the Paseo Maritimo in Sabinillas, starting at 8.15 am.

Manilva joined in with the rest of Spain in celebrating Spain's victory in the European Cup.

Manilva’s Planning Department has submitted a formal application to the Highways Department requesting the installation of three footbridges: Close to the Lidl Supermarket; Los Hidalgos; and La Paloma.

The Department, headed by Councillor Emilio López, submitted the request along with all the relevant documentation today, Friday 27th June, 2008.

As a separate issue a request has also been submitted for the installation of acoustic panels along certain stretches of the main road to reduce noise nuisance for residents.

Police detained a group of six people believed to be the gang responsible for a spate of burglaries in the Manilva and Estepona area.

The gang, ranging in age from 21 to 40 and including 4 Albanians, a Bulgarian and a Rumanian, are thought to have carried out at least 10 burglaries, targeting luxury homes in the early hours of the morning and gassing the occupants to render them unconscious whilst they looted the house and stole valuables and cars.

The gang were apprehended after an investigation by police, codenamed Operacion “Green”, culminated in offices raiding two houses and recovering 5 luxury cars, along with jewellery, cameras and cash.

Manilva Town Council will continue to pursue the project to restore Manilva’s Santa Ana Church despite being turned down by the Junta de Andalucia for a grant under the regional government’s Plan Qualifica.

Council workers, accompanied by police officers, removed two walls and gates which were erected illegally at Aldea Beach.

To celebrate the opening of the ‘Mercado del Mar’ summer market there will be a concert starring Miguel Saez, who will performing a selection of tracks from his latest album. The concert will start at 10.30 pm on the beach at La Noria in Sabinillas.

The ‘Mercado del Mar’market will run throughout the summer from the 27th June to the 13th September on the Paseo Maritimo in Sabinillas. The Commerce department would like to double its size from last year and are inviting all local businesses, to take advantage of this facility.

The market will take place from Friday to Sunday every week, with various stalls selling gifts, handicrafts, jewellery, etc.

All those wishing to participate must present their opening license, copy of their public liability insurance and a photocopy of their DNI or passport at the Oficina de Comercio situated in Plaza Ginebra in Sabinillas.

This is held each year on the evening of the 23rd of June and goes on through to the early hours of the 24th (Dia de San Juan).
