Local venta destroyed by fire

Venta El Paraiso

 
Fire ripped through the Venta El Paraiso, situated above the Playa de las Arenas at Punta Chullera, reducing this popular watering hole to a smoking ruin. The fire began around 5 pm on Friday, 3rd October when neighbours reported an explosion which engulfed the restaurant in flames in just a few minutes. The fire service were quickly on the scene but were powerless to save the mostly timber and glass building.

Manilva municipal assets face embargo

Manilva Town Hall has received notification this month from the court in Malaga that they must provide a list of all municipal assets with a view to an embargo being placed on them in respect of a judgement made in 2005 for non payment of accounts for works carried out in 1998.

Town Hall restricts internet access for staff

The Mayoress of Manilva,  Antonia Muñoz, has ordered that restrictions be placed on internet access on council computers, allowing only those sites that relate directly to the work of any individual department.

A glamourous and spectacular show was held at the Duquesa hotel and golf club on Friday the 12th of September, an event which put Manilva on the map where hard work and excellent organisation came together to give all who attended a night to remember.

Harley JaeSunday October 19th sees the third Harley Jae Trust Day in aid of three year old Harley who suffers from West Syndrome. A severe form of epilepsy, development delay, and learning disabilities.

1st July - The official bathing season began today with a presentation of the team that will be maintaining the beaches along with the civil protection crew who will be providing safety cover and lifeguard services.

28th June - Hundreds of locals turned out to see the Parque El Duque officially opened tonight. They were treated to entertainment and fireworks followed by a performance by María Lozano from Canal Sur TV's “Se llama Copla”. For photos visit the Manilva Life Gallery .

27th June - Álvarez elected president of PP Manilva

Francisco Miguel Alvarez was elected president of the Partido Poplar Manilva at the party's congress held on Saturday, 27th June held at the La Duquesa Golf Club.
The congress, which was attended by a large number of foreign residents, included amongst its guests a number of PP councillors from other municipalities along with the provincial PP president Elias Bendodo who emphasised Manilva key importance in the forthcoming local elections in 2011.

25th June - The Mayoress has told council workers her government is working to find the money to pay this month's wage bill, which includes the first of the two annual extra payments, doubling the money which will need to be found!

Works on the new archaeological museum in the Castle at Castillo de la Duquesa are now complete. The museum is expected to open to the public on the 20th July.


22nd June - The group 'Excéntrico Milú' were in Manilva last weekend shooting a video for their latest single “Sólo pienso en ti”.
The band's singer, Pedro Tirol, explained that he had many fond memories of summers spent in the area, which is why they shot the video here.
