Council asks local people for old tools, etc for a new museum

The Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, has made a formal request to the public for help in providing historical items to create a local museum dedicated to the ‘land and sea’ which will be situated in the Castle at Castillo de La Duquesa.  To this end she has already suggested the commencement of the project to the councillor for Culture, Yolanda Holgado and the councillor responsible for Beaches, Diego Urieta.

New tourist office opened in Sabinillas

Sabinillas Tourist Office

A new tourist office, which is located next to the Local Police office adjoining the Tenencia de Alcaldia on Calle Duquesa de Arcos, has been opened in response to a demand in the Sabinillas area for an office to handle tourist enquiries and to provide information.

The Town Hall saves 4,000 euros a month in office and municipal rentals

According to the Mayoress of Manilva, actions taken by the Town Hall’s Department of Finance and Taxes concerning the elimination of rental charges,has resulted in a situation where the Town Hall will be able to save around 4,000 euros a month for the municipal coffers.

The Mayoress of Manilva with local councillors and representatives of the Manilva Suns

Manilva Town Council recently signed a deal to sponsor the Costa del Sol Suns, an amateur American Football team based in the Marbella/San Pedro area and comprising experienced players from leagues in England, Finland, Sweden, Austria, and American NCAA including Zac Colvin, former quarterback with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Verbena San Luis

This fiesta on Saturday, 25th August, 2007 celebrates San Luis the Patron Saint of Sabinillas.

Verbena San Luis

The day kicks off in traditional fashion at 8.00 am with rockets and a parade by the Town Band through the streets of Sabinillas.
At 11 am the children’s activities begin in Plaza Vicente Espinel organised by the children’s entertainers group “Adeo”.

In the afternoon there is a Mass in honour of the patron accompanied by the Church Choir. After which the Saint’s statue is taken in procession through the streets of the village accompanied by the town band.

Music and dancing in the Plaza Vicente Espinel from 10.30 pm until the early hours of the morning to the group “A Compas”.

Two cars destroyed in don Amaro fire

Don Amaro fire

A fire damaged a number of vehicles in a garage under a building in Sabinillas early yesterday morning.

The fire broke out in the parking area under the Don Amaro building in the El Duque urbanisation at around 4.30 on Monday morning. The fire was quickly attended by units from both Estepona and Marbella fire stations along with local police and ambulances. Several people trapped by smoke had to be rescued from the building, but no one was injured. 18 vehicles were affected by the fire, two being completely destroyed, one slightly damaged and fifteen affected by smoke.

The Deputy Mayor of Manilva, Emilio Lopez, visited the site and has ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire.
