11.00 am Blessing of the palms and holy mass at the Santa Ana Church, Manilva.

12 noon Procession.

Holy Wednesday - 8th April

11.00 pm Via Crucis procession starts from the church and proceeds through Calle Cuartel and El Camino del Calvario.

Holy Thursday - 9th April

8.00 pm Mass in the the church.

11.30 pm Procession of Jesus of Nazareth.

Good Friday - 10th April

5.00 pm Adoration of the Cross.

6.30 pm Procession of "Santo Entierro" and Ntra Sra de los Dolores".

12 midnight Procession "De la Soledad". This procession is undertaken in strict silence.

Holy Saturday - 11th April

11.00 pm Blessing of the Flame in the church atrium and the Easter vigil.

Easter Sunday - 12th April

12 noon Holy mass followed by the procession of the "Santisimo Cristo Resucitado" and the "Santisima Virgen del Rosario A.M.D.G."

Punta Chullera residents demand answers to infrastructure woes

Dozens of Punta Chullera residents visited Manilva Town Hall today to protest about the continued  delays to infrastructure works on their urbanisation which has left many of the roads impassable during wet weather either by vehicle or on foot.

Vecinos y Amigos de Marina de Casares Club

This club (Neighbours and Friends of Marina de Casares) was formed in July 2008 with a view to providing a focal point for local English and Spanish speaking residents to integrate and participate in a number of social activities, including Spanish and English lessons as well as painting and other classes.

Dozens attend business networking breakfast

Acemce breakfast networking meeting

Between 40 and 50 local business men and women attended a networking breakfast held by ACEMCE, Manilva's business association, this month.

Held at Meson Rocio in Sabinillas, the meeting provided an opportunity for diverse business people and entrepreneurs to make contact, share information, and build relationships, over coffee.

In these difficult times networking is a very important business activity, and the aim is to hold at least one such meeting every month.

Photo Compeition

Manilva's Foreigners' Department is holding a photography competition this spring, with a first prize of 200 euros. The competition, which is on a them of 'Manilva and its residents' is open to all comers and will be judged by the Councillor, a professional photographer and representatives from the local press.

Carnival Programme - Manilva 7th and 8th March 2009

Carnival Manilva

Saturday, 7th March

5.00 pm: Grand carnival cavalcade opens the festivities, setting off from the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa at around 5.00 pm before wending its way to Sabinillas and Manilva, finally ending up at the Recinto Ferial (Sunday market place) at around 9.00 pm.

9.00 pm: Events kick off at the Recinto Ferial with various fairground attractions available along with bouncy castles, mechanical bull, etc.

9.30 pm: Adults fancy dress competition and prizegiving.

Midnight: Music and dancing to the the group "Crucero" followed by DJ Alvaro.

Sunday, 8th March

11.00 am: Attractions open for the kids to enjoy.

11.30 am: Children's carnival party with prizes for the best children's fancy dress and gifts for all entrants. Children's show “las niñas del caramelo”.

1.30 pm: Performance throughout the afternoon by various carnival groups (comparsas and chirigotas).

2.30 pm: Enjoy a free plate of paella from the giant paellas cooked on site.

Andalucia Day - Manilva Programme

Andalucia Day

On the 28th February Andalucia celebrates the anniversary of the referendum in 1980 in which Andalucians voted overwhelmingly for autonomy.
In Manilva the day is marked with a programme of events which take place in front of the Town Hall in Manilva Town.

Bet on local commerce

Once again Manilva's Commerce Department has organised a festive edition of their 'Bet on Local Commerce' campaign.

If you spend €10 or more before the 6th January in any one of the many local businesses participating in the scheme you will recieve a ticket which will be entered into a lottery to be drawn during a special televised event on Manilva Television which will take place on the 7th January, 2009.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to support local businesses during the festive period.

1st July - The official bathing season began today with a presentation of the team that will be maintaining the beaches along with the civil protection crew who will be providing safety cover and lifeguard services.

28th June - Hundreds of locals turned out to see the Parque El Duque officially opened tonight. They were treated to entertainment and fireworks followed by a performance by María Lozano from Canal Sur TV's “Se llama Copla”. For photos visit the Manilva Life Gallery .

27th June - Álvarez elected president of PP Manilva

Francisco Miguel Alvarez was elected president of the Partido Poplar Manilva at the party's congress held on Saturday, 27th June held at the La Duquesa Golf Club.
The congress, which was attended by a large number of foreign residents, included amongst its guests a number of PP councillors from other municipalities along with the provincial PP president Elias Bendodo who emphasised Manilva key importance in the forthcoming local elections in 2011.

25th June - The Mayoress has told council workers her government is working to find the money to pay this month's wage bill, which includes the first of the two annual extra payments, doubling the money which will need to be found!

Works on the new archaeological museum in the Castle at Castillo de la Duquesa are now complete. The museum is expected to open to the public on the 20th July.


22nd June - The group 'Excéntrico Milú' were in Manilva last weekend shooting a video for their latest single “Sólo pienso en ti”.
The band's singer, Pedro Tirol, explained that he had many fond memories of summers spent in the area, which is why they shot the video here.
