Manilva’s Tourism Department has organised a Flamenco Fashion Parade to be held in Plaza Vicente Espinel, Sabinillas on Saturday, July 13, from 9 pm.
Around 40 classic vehicles are expected to turn out for Manilva’s III Classic Car Rally.
These venerable motors will muster at the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa at approximately 10.30 am after which they will drive up to Manilva where they will stop in Manilva’s main street, Calle Mar at 11.30 pm.
Following a tapa in one of the local hostelries they will then drive down to Sabinillas for a procession around the town before setting off to Puerto de la Duquesa where they will park up around the harbour and in Ros y Falcon’s car park whilst the owners nip off for a spot of lunch at 2 – 2-30 pm.
All timings are of course approximate.
To celebrate its third anniversary Manilva’s “El Indio” Flamenco Association is organising a concert by the flamenco star ‘Falete’ at the Colegio San Luis school in Sabinillas on Saturday August 3, from 9 pm.
Falete, real name Rafael Ojeda Rojas, is gipsy flamenco singer from Seville and one of the stars of the flamenco scene for over 16 years with different shows including dance, flamenco and coplas and has collaborated with international artists such as Isabel Pantoja, Rocío Jurado and Chavela Vargas.
Falete’s ‘ambiguous’ gender has led to a complicated personal life which lends to his performance a gritty authenticity.
Tickets are 10€ in advance or 12€ on the door, and are available from Gimnasio Alpha Fitness Center en Plza. De la Hispanidad Bl. Diana, 4 Bajo in Fuengirola, Asador “La Gitana” en C/ Mar in Manilva, Asador “La Boutique de Pollo” in C/ Duquesa de Arcos in Sabinillas and the Delegación de Cultura in Plaza Martín Carpena in Manilva. There will also be a ticket sales point in Plaza del Cali, Sabinillas from the beginning of July which will be open from 10 am to midday, and from 10 pm to midnight.
On the same day there will be a free programme of flamenco performances from 12 noon to 7 pm organised by the “El Indio” association in collaboration with Manilva’s Cultural Department and the Cristina Seguín Dance School, with a free paella available. There will also be a bar serving tapas, sandwiches and kebabs.
On Saturday June 15 Manilva’s Tourism Department, in collaboration with the local riding association, presents the III Sabinillas Equestrian Meeting, which will be held on the beach in front of Urbanisation La Noria.
There will be a number of disciplines, including lancing and removing ribbons suspended from a line, as well as races. There will also be a procession around the streets of Sabinillas.
The event begins around 6.30 to 7 pm and all spectators are welcome.

Manilva’s Tourism Department is organising a day trip to Jerez de la Frontera on Sunday May 12 for the annual feria.
There are two price options: 10 euros to cover the coach, or 25 euros for coach and a meal.
The coach leaves Manilva at 10.25 am; Sabinillas 10.30 am; and Castillo at 10.35 am.

Manilva’s Tourism department has published an overview of visitor numbers to its tourist office in Duquesa Port and the service it offers to the public.
In 2012 the number of visitors received in the office totaled 3,815 representing the following nationalities: British 73.65% followed by the Spanish with 12.74%. Scandinavian and French counted for 5.49% and 5.25%, respectively, whilst other nationalities represent 2.87%.
Most of their questions were general, requesting information about the town and surrounding villages, leisure and sporting activities, bus schedules and transportation in general as well as various trips and activities going on in the municipality.
