As a result of request by Manilva’s pensioners and a number of foreign residents, Manilva Town Hall have installed two petanca pitches just off the Paseo Maritimo in the La Noria area of Sabinillas.
The two regulation size pitches were installed following consultation as to the best location for them, taking into account easy access, etc.
Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta, recently signed a €188,000 contract with the company Contracom Sociedad Cooperativa Andaluza, for the completion of the Sabinillas Sports Centre.
The contract involves completion of the final phase of works to the main sports hall, including the 1780m2 multisport playing surface and the grandstands with capacity of up to 300 spectators.
The work is expected to be completed in three months.
The enrollment period is now open for the participation in the eleventh edition of the Manilva Amateur 7-a-side Football League
According to the Councillor for Sports, Mario Jimenez, this year’s competition is open to a maximum of thirteen teams, each of which will pay an inscription of 350 euros plus 100 euros as a deposit.
Along with the enrollment fee teams must submit a completed application form with a colour photograph and photocopy of the ID card of each team member.
Teams must consist of a minimum of twelve and a maximum of fifteen players. All must be over 18 and at least six must be over the age of 30. Also only four players, not registered on the Manilva Padron will be permitted in each team.
Teams have until September 30 to register.
Manilva veteran climber, Rogelio Pascual, has been proclaimed Andalucian Champion in the category ‘Dificultad’. The Manilva sportsman finished ahead of the youngster Juan García-Chicano, whilst Granada’s José Martín took the third step on the podium.
The competition, organised by the Andalucian Climbing Federation, Seville’s City Hall, and the Seville Climbing Club, took place at the Ifni Sports Centre climbing wall, home of the famous Seville Bloque Open, with more than 100 competitors and a huge number of spectators.
Manilva’s Councillor for Sports, Mario Jiménez, has met with the organisers of the I Vendimia Mountain Bike Marathon to ensure that everything is in place to ensure the success of the race that will be held on September 13, 2014.
This first mountain bike marathon, which has been organised by the Sports Department in conjunction with Manilva’s Cycling Club, is the result of months of planning which will see a large field of competitors battle it out on the 64 km course with a descent of some 1500 metres, which takes in many of the municipality’s tracks and trails and which is appropriate to cyclists of all levels of ability.
According to Councillor Jiménez “the sport of cycling is becoming very popular in Manilva, and this competition provides an opportunity for cyclists to compete in their favourite sport”.
Manilva’s Sports Department, headed by Councillor Mario Jimenez, is organising a Gala Sports Night on Thursday 24 July.
The evening will be a celebration of sporting achievement and will recognise those locals who have contributed to Manilva’s sporting landscape.
The gala, which starts at 8 pm, will be celebrated in the Manilva Wine Centre Theatre.
After the opening welcome from the local authorities the presentation of trophies and awards will begin.
Manilva Athletics Club in collaboration with the sports department has announced the date for the ‘IV Carrera Popular Corruco Race’ which will be held on Saturday 23 August from 7 pm.
There are a number of categories with the main race taking in some 6 kms through Sabinillas, Duquesa and Castillo.
The categories are as follows:
Pre Benjamin – Girls and Boys born in 2006 and later. This race is over 400 m and sets off at 7 pm.
Benjamin – Girls and Boys born in 2004/2005. 400 m and sets off at 7 pm.
Alevin – Girls and Boys born in 2002/2003. 800 m and sets off at 7.15 pm.
Infantil – Girls and Boys born in 2000/2001. 800 m and sets off at 7.15 pm.
Cadete – Girls and Boys born in 1998/1999. 6 km and sets off at 8 pm.
Junior – Girls and Boys born from 1994 to 1997. 6 km and sets off at 8 pm.
Senior – Men and Women born from 1980 to 1993. 6 km and sets off at 8 pm.
Veterans A – Men and Women born from 1968 to 1979. 6 km and sets off at 8 pm.
Veterans B – Men and Women born in 1967 and before. 6 km and sets off at 8 pm.

Enrolment has begun for the various sporting activities available for the months of July and August.
As in previous years the aim is to offer sports for the whole population with activities available for children, adults, and senior citizens.
For the children there are activities on offer such as tennis and swimming.
For the adults there are a wide range to choose from, with keep fit, aqua running, aquarobics, cardio pilates, tennis , Zumba, back training, aquagym, physical training, swimming, spinning, yoga and keep fit for the pregnant.
Not to be left out, the senior citizens can also enjoy a number of activities such as aquagym, back training, and swimming for beginners.
There are special prices for those registered on the Padron, Carnet Joven holders enjoy a 25% reduction, and there also discounts to those that sign up for both July and August as well as those who enrol in more than one activity.
Pensioners on the Padron in Manilva can participate in one activity totally free with a second activity available for just 5 euros.

Manilva will hold the thirty-ninth edition of the annual 24-hour Sports Festival over the weekend of June 27 and 28, 2014.
According to the town’s sports department, headed by Councillor Mario Jimenez, participants and spectators will be able to enjoy events in some 16 sports, including: Chess, Climbing, Swimming, Fishing, Table Tennis, Shooting, Equestrian, and Beach Volleyball. Enrolment for these events is one hour before the start of each tournament. Other sports include: Handball, 3×3 Basketball, Football Sevens, Football, Tennis, and Paddle Tennis. All those interested in participant in these events should register at the Sports Department before June 23 with the draw taking place on June 25 at 8 pm in the Sports Hall.

All entries are free except the adult football for which there is a €60 per team entry fee; and the adult Paddle Tennis for which there is a ten euro fee.
There will be trophies for first and second in each competition, with a €600 winner’s prize for the football, and a prize of €300 for the runners-up.

Following the success of the skate park recently opened in Manilva, the town hall have been in consultation with local skating enthusiasts, and as a result they have announced that a skate park will be opened in Sabinillas shortly.
This new facility will be situated in the green zone in the Maicandil area close to the new cycle path and will feature a Half Pipe, Miniramp, Quarter Pipe, Sping Ramp, Grindbox and Planter, Ground Rail and a Box.
