Benefit Concert – Music for the Children

On Saturday March 16 the Manilva Wine Centre’s auditorium will be the venue for a star-studded concert, featuring some of the Coast’s top singers and musicians, in support of Danii’s Children’s Cancer Charity.

Starting at 6.30 pm with a Cava reception the concert line-up includes: Sam Oliver, Stelvis Lacosta, Mitch Jansen & Soulkatz, Southern Impact, Daniela Caballero, Tony Watson, Zoë Louise, Robert Sas, Miss Thang, and Sarah J L Howard.

Tickets cost 20€ for adults and 5€ for children with all proceeds from the bar and ticket sales going to Danii’s Children’s Cancer Charity, full details of which can be found here: Tickets are available from Sam Oliver’s Bar in Puerto de la Duquesa and the Hairy Lemon in Sotogrande Port.

The concert has been organised by Sam Oliver in collaboration with Manilva’s Foreigners and Culture departments.

Here is the programme of events organised by the various local authority departments in Manilva for the month of February.

Some of the events have yet to be confirmed or details finalised and we will update this list as we receive the information.  There will also be additions to this list as the month progresses.

Sunday 3
Cultural department presents a screening of the film “Brave” from 5 pm at the Centro de Interpretación de Sabinillas.

Saturday 9
Social Welfare department is organising a benefit party in aid of Vanina.
From 9.30 pm in the Manilva pavillion

Sunday 10
Culture and Tourism have organised a trip to Cadiz for the carnival celebrations.
Coach leaves Manilva at 8 am picking up in front of Bernardo Muñoz in Sabinillas at Tickets 12 euros available from Fiestas, Culture and Foreigners’ departments.

Friday 15
Education department is organising carnival celebrations for the nursery kids at the Manilva nursery from 10 am (time to be confirmed)

Saturday 16
Culture department theatre trip to Malaga to see the comedy “Los Hombre Que Mienten”.

Manilva’s Youth department presents a Saint Valentines party “I Love; The Original 100%” with DJ Sergio Moreno at the Manilva Pavillion from 11.30 pm.
Tickets 8 euros.

Make-up course – 2nd part of the the December group.
From 6 pm at the Centro de Formación in Sabinillas.

Wednesday 20
Music School auditions at the Manilva Wine Centre from 7 pm.

Thursday 21
Foreigners department presents a talk on the Ley Extranjera (foreigners law) a the Villa Matilde, Sabinillas. Time to be confirmed.

Education department is organising carnival celebrations for the nursery kids at the Manilva nursery from 10 am (time to be confirmed)

Saturday 23 – Carnival
Culture department presents the annual carnival celebrations at the Manilva pavillion.
4 pm – Parade of floats with children’s entertainers and Brazilian dancers:

  • 4 pm – Castillo
  • 5pm – Sabinillas
  • 6pm – Manilva

5 pm – Enrolment for the children’s fancy dress contest (all entrants will receive snacks and a gift);
Followed by children’s entertainment, games, face painting, etc.
7 pm – Children’s fancy dress contest.
10 pm – Enrolment for the adult and group fancy dress competition.
11 pm – Adult and group fancy dress competition.
Following the prize giving there will be music provided by DJ.

Monday 25 – Wednesday 27
VI Semana Blanca Basketball Campus at the Las Viñas sports complex in Manilva.

Wednesday 27
Andalucia Day celebrations in the municipal nurseries in Manilva, Sabinillas, and Castillo from 10 am.

Thursday 28 – Andalucia Day (regional holiday)
Andalucia Day Celebrations presented by the Cultural department
11.30 am – Procession by the Manilva Town Band
12 noon – Civic ceremony in front of the Town Hall with flag raising accompanied by the Andalucia Anthem performed by the Town Band, choirs and Luisana.
1 pm – Reading and song by Romancero Gitano
1.30 pm – Performance by the Sabinillas Choir
2 pm – Performance by the Manilva Choir
2.30 pm – Performance by the students of the Eva Cabrera and Cristina Seguín Dance Schools.
3.30 pm – Performance by the Music School Orchestra.
4.30 pm – Performance by the Music School Band.
5 pm – Municipal Dance School.
6 pm – Performance by the Music School Orchestra.

Manilva offers help with IBI payments


Manilva’s Town Hall has announced that they are inviting applications from local residents for help with their IBI payments.

For the third year running there are benefits available for those property owners providing they comply with the following requirements:

  • Registered on the Manilva Padron.
  • Own just one property.
  • The total income for the household must not exceed the amount established in the terms of the benefit.
  • The IBI must be paid by direct debit.
  • The applicant must have no outstanding debt with the Town Hall.

For more information you can contact the Town Hall’s ‘Área de Intervención’ situated on the first floor of the Town Hall in Manilva, or call 952 890 065.

Applications can be presented in the Town Hall’s registry office or at the Tenencia de Alcaldia in Sabinillas before February 28.

Christmas Window Display competition winners announced

First place – El Gallego

The winners of the 2012 Christmas Window Display competition were announced today. The competition which is open to all businesses in the Manilva area is organised by the Manilva Town Hall’s Commerce Department, and is held annually.

This year the standards were very high with the top three window displays won by:
1st prize of 300 euros – El Gallego, Manilva
2nd prize of 200 euros – Modas Finas, Sabinillas
3rd prize of 100 euros – The Curtain and Bedding Company, Sabinillas

109 compete in V Manilva Wine Contest

V Manilva Wine Contest

The V Manilva Wine Contest held at the Manilva Wine Centre on Saturday January 5 drew a large number of entrants with some 109 entries in the three categories: Dry, Semi Dry, and Sweet.

Judging the wines was an expert panel including María Bocanegra, Manuel González and Joanni Amado from the wine school along with somellier José Ángel Triano and chemist Pedro Calleja.

Prizes of 300€, €200, and €100 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively were awarded in each category, with the winners being as follows:

In the Dry category – 1st Antonio Quirós Herrera, 2nd Fernando Juan Mariscal Pérez, and 3rd Juan Carlos López Reyes.

In the Semi Dry category – 1st Antonio Ignacio Collado Rodríguez, 2nd Fernando Juan Mariscal, 3rd Jacinto Vázquez Benítez.

Finally in the Sweet category – 1st Agustín Amado Muñoz, 2nd Rafael Vargas Arena, 3rd Antonio Guillén Gómez.

Three Kings cavalcade

Three Kings in Sabinillas

Manilva continues its Three Kings celebrations on Saturday January 5 with the traditional Three Kings cavalcade which wends its way through the streets of Castillo, Sabinillas and Manilva.

The itinerary for this year’s cavalcades starts at the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa at 6 pm and follows the following routes:
Avd. Europa, Plaza Baños Romanos, C/ Mero, C/Pescadores, C/ San José and Avd. Europa.

Following this the procession moves to Sabinillas starting from La Colonia and then C/ Jose Cadalso, C/ Duquesa de Arcos,C/ Aurora de Albornoz,C/ Miguel Delibes, C/ Pablo Picasso, C/ Marques de Larios and Avda. de Manilva.

Finally Gaspar, Melchor and Baltasar head off to Manilva starting off in C/ Mar and then C/ Iglesia, C/ Cuartel, C/ Cruces, C/ Jimena finally returning to C/ Mar.

Manilva Wine Contest

V Manilva Wine Contest

The V Manilva Wine Contest will be held at the Wine Centre in Manilva on Saturday January 5 from 9.30 am onwards.

Local winemakers are invited to submit bottles of wine in the categories Dry, Sweet, and Medium Sweet which will be judged by an expert panel, the winner receiving a cheque for 300 euros; second place a cheque for 200 euros; and finally third place 100 euros.

The public are invited to attend and try some of the competing wines.

Manilva population hits 15,000

A member of the Griffith family became fifteen thousandth person to be registered on Manilva’s padron last week.

The English family of four were treated to an official welcome in the Mayor’s office to celebrate this landmark figure.

They join the 42% of Manilva’s non-Spanish population which represents nationals from some 75 different countries.
