Manilva Full Moon Festival will be held on August 1

The Full Moon Party is to be held on Saturday August 1st. This was confirmed by the Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Becerra, whose department is putting the final touches to the programme of events.

Once again the event will bring thousands of revellers to the beach in Sabinillas to celebrate this festival which has been recognised by the provincial authorities as an important event on the tourism calendar.

The festival begins as the daylight ends with many of those attending dressed in white and includes plenty of musical entertainment including the Seeking Soul Band, playing soul and funk, along with Av drums and Saxo House, Roberto Cantero from Chambao as well as djs Diego Robles and Jose Seron, and local dj Pajaro.

There will be no shortage of colour and spectacle this year with a programme packed with parades, stilt walkers, jugglers, fire dancers, and once again the facades of the buildings on the paseo and plaza Cali will be the canvas for a sound and light show.

Following advice from the local police and fire service the Chinese lanterns will not be released due to the fire risk they present, but there will be an alternative safer spectacle to take their place.

Sabinillas will have free parking for an extra 300 cars this summer

Manilva Town Hall has announced that it has made available 300 parking spaces located in the Sports Complex in Sabinillas.

Manilva’s population increases fivefold during the summer and places a heavy demand on local services including human resources and material. This initiative will go a long way to relieve some of the parking congestion in Sabinillas.

Free parking at the centre will be available until the 15th of September.

Councillor Manolo Gil commented, “the  local police will be patrolling both inside and the surrounding area of the car park”. He also noted that “this is a special measure for special circumstances, and it is highly unusual to offer free parking in the village centre especially during high season”.

New triumphs for Fencing School at national and regional level

The School of Fencing based in the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa has recently been in action at a couple of tournaments.

In the Polideportivo de Leganes in Madrid members participated in the National Fencing Criterium for Under 10s and Under 12s, equivalent to the Spanish Championships in this category.

It was a great sight to see some 800 youngsters setting an example of sportsmanship and camaraderie, with all the children enjoying a day of sport and meeting new friends from across Spain, all with a common interest – fencing.

In the Women’s Under 10 Catherine Deardon took the gold, whilst in the Under 11s Amelia Deardon missed out on a deserved medal by a single hit from one of the tournaments top ten fencers.

Meanwhile in the Andalucia Fencing Championships held in Almeria recently, Maria Maldonado took the bronze medal; and the Manilva women’s team comprising Maria Maldonado, Noelia Tejera and Joanna Kustra took the silver.

The Mayor of Manilva, Diego Jose Jimenez and the Councillor for Sports, Agustin Vargas, on behalf of the local council wish to congratulate both athletes and coaches on their success.
