Manilva Town Hall to trial electric vehicle

The car manufacturer Renault has provided Manilva’s municipal fleet of vehicles with an electric van, on a trial basis.

The vehicle is the Kangoo ZE which is fully electric and was launched in 2011, and is a pioneer in the market for electric vans.

The decision to trial the van came about following a meeting between the councillor for Cleaning & Transport and the councillor for the Environment, Antonio de Haro and Emilio Lopez respectively, in which the state of the municipal vehicle pool was discussed. Many of the vehicles have mechanical issues due to their age, and it was agreed that the town hall should look to replace them with vehicles which are more economical and better for the environment as well as quieter.

The Kangoo ZE has a range of 170 km depending on the payload, speed, use of heating or air-conditioning, and driving style.

The Town Hall also runs a subsidy scheme providing a grant for local residents looking to purchase electric vehicles.
