Dire Straits tribute band ‘Sultans’ will be performing live at El Molino on Sunday 6 July from 8 pm.

All is set for this year’s San Juan celebrations on Monday 23 June. The theme this year is the popular Spanish cartoon characters Mortadelo y Filemon’. For details of what it’s all about see Noche de San Juan.
Music starts at around 10 pm with the group ‘La Tentacion’.
From 11.15 pm there will be a presentation by the Commerce Department in recognition of one of the local hostelries.
At midnight the bonfire is lit which is followed shortly afterwards by a fireworks display.
‘La Tentation’ then return to the stage for music and dancing into the early hours of the morning.

Manilva’s Flamenco Association is organising a festival of flamenco on Saturday 21 June in the old sports hall, next to the football ground, in Manilva.
Starting at 5 pm flamenco fans can enjoy an evening of great music and dance from local artists including Manuel Marchena, Diego Reyes, Antonio Soto, Nina Ledesma, Mari Ocaña, Ana Pineda and Emi la del Mellizo, along with Javier Pineda “Potajito”, Paco de Gaucín and Pepe Ortega. There will also be dancing by Eva Cabrera and Cristina Seguín and her group.
All are welcome and entry is free.
The car park beneath the sports centre in Sabinillas has opened today, providing 280 car parking spaces just in time for the summer rush and there is a 2 euro per day/per visit charge except on the festivals of San Juan, Full Moon Festival, and Tourist Day when the charge is 2 euros from 10 am to 2 am; 4 euros from 10 am to 6 am.
You can also buy a 15 day ticket for 40 euros or a monthly one for 70 euros, ideal for people out on holiday.
Manilva Town Hall is collaborating with local dance teacher Fernanda Vailant to present the Ferva Beach Dance Festival in Sabinillas over the summer of 2014.
The festival will bring a programme of dance classes, spectaculars, concerts and fiestas offering different styles of dance including Zumba, Capoeira, Samba and Flamenco to the beach at La Noria in Sabinillas.
Activities will take place every Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 pm to 10 pm from June 24 to September 14.

Manilva’s Culture and Youth departments have teamed up to present Castillo Rockfest which will be held at El Huerto Park, next to the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa on Friday 18 July.
Rock fans can enjoy a festival of music from 9 pm until 3 am the following morning, with bands such as Buenas Noticias, The Wheel and The Hammond, and the Bud Spencer Band performing live.
This is a free concert with all the money raised from the bar going towards local football club U Manilva CF.

This year’s IV Manilva Classic Car Rally will be held on Saturday, 21 June.
The vehicles will gather at the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa before setting off around 10.30 am for Manilva gathering in Plaza de la Vendimia, next to the Wine Centre, from 12 noon to 1 pm.
At 1 pm they will return to Sabinillas where they can be viewed by the public in Plaza El Cali in front of the statue.

As usual Manilva’s schools are operating a scheme providing activities for children during the summer months allowing parents to balance work with family life during the school holidays.
These classes are operated by the schools in collaboration with the Parents’ Associations and the Manilva Education Department.
Maicandil School in Sabinillas are offering a wide range of activities, such as dance workshops, sport and games, handicrafts, cinema, healthy eating, cookery, photography and IT, as well as many other.
Youngsters can also enjoy a wide variety of table games, films in English, all aimed at children aged from 3 to 13 years whether they are students at Maicandil or not.
Monthly prices range from 15 euros for the period from 7.30 am to 9.30 am; 85 euros from 9 am to 2 pm; and 17 euros from 2 pm to 4 pm; or for the full day from 7.30 am to 4 pm at a cost of 117 euros per month.
There are also prices per fortnight, and Parents’ Association members receive a reduction of 5 euros on the final price. Parents who enrol more than one child will also receive a discount.
The Summer School (Los Patios de Verano) begins on July 1 and runs until August 30 and enrolment is now open.
Enrolment has begun for the various sporting activities available for the months of July and August.
As in previous years the aim is to offer sports for the whole population with activities available for children, adults, and senior citizens.
For the children there are activities on offer such as tennis and swimming.
For the adults there are a wide range to choose from, with keep fit, aqua running, aquarobics, cardio pilates, tennis , Zumba, back training, aquagym, physical training, swimming, spinning, yoga and keep fit for the pregnant.
Not to be left out, the senior citizens can also enjoy a number of activities such as aquagym, back training, and swimming for beginners.
There are special prices for those registered on the Padron, Carnet Joven holders enjoy a 25% reduction, and there also discounts to those that sign up for both July and August as well as those who enrol in more than one activity.
Pensioners on the Padron in Manilva can participate in one activity totally free with a second activity available for just 5 euros.

The O’Callaghan’s Bar Golf Society recently arranged a day of Golf, Food and Drink to celebrate Chris’s life in what will now become an annual event. The format played was Stableford and the winner this year and taking the trophy was Adie Goldring who won with 38 points followed by runner up Jack O’Callaghan with 36 points.
The game was played at what is known as Atalaya Golf ‘s New course and the food, drinks and presentation were held at O’Callaghans Bar, Sabinillas. The presentation was made by Richard Smith and Rebekah Lowe.
