Manilva welcomed two intrepid cyclists who have just completed a 4,200 km bike ride from their hometown of Plock in Poland to Tarifa at the southernmost tip of Spain.
Bartek Bielecki and Piotr Dyka, aged just 17 and 18, undertook this challenge off their own back, setting off on June 12 and cycling across Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, France, and Spain, finishing up 46 days later in Tarifa.
The expedition was a prime example of the fact that you don’t need a shed load of money to undertake such a trip, with the two lads using standard off-the-shelf road bikes and allowing themselves a budget of just 15 euros a day.
The intrepid pair were enjoying a day or two to relax in Manilva with members of Manilva’s Polish community before returning home to Poland (by air!) and were met by the Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, and Councillor Mario Jiménez, at the Polish owned Floristeria Violeta where they were presented with a memento of their visit to Manilva and extended the best wishes of the people of Manilva for their future adventures.
Manilva’s Foreigners Department has organised a trip to the Malaga town of Guaro for the annual ‘Luna Mora’ (Moorish moon) celebrations on Saturday September 7.
The Festival de la Luna Mora began in 1997 as a spiritual tribute to Andalucia´s Muslim, Christian and Jewish past. Each year there are different artists performing music and dance with Arabic, Andalucian, Sephardic, European and Mediterranean influences. Tourists and locals alike join in the festivities of outdoor entertainment, drinking, eating and shopping all under the stars of a warm summer night.
One of the biggest attractions of the festival is that the whole village of Guaro is illuminated with 20,000 candles, which makes for a very surreal and beautiful ambiance bringing the village to life at night.
The coach leaves Manilva at 6 pm leaving to return around 1 pm. Tickets are just 7 euros per person and are available from the Foreign Residents Office in the Castle or by calling 952 893 548 or 689 948 672.
